A fire station floor takes abuse nothing else does — 40,000-lb apparatus, tires still hot from a call, diesel and hydraulic fluid, road salt tracked in all winter, and bay doors swinging the slab through 60-degree temperature shifts as they open and close. Bare or failing concrete can’t keep up with that. Transylvania Concrete Coatings installs polyurea, polyaspartic, and epoxy floor systems in New Jersey fire stations, with most jobs completed in a single day so the station stays in service.
An apparatus bay floor fails in specific, predictable ways: hot-tire pickup lifting the coating where the rig parks, delamination at expansion joints from constant vibration, moisture vapor pushing up through the slab, chemical attack from fuel and cleaning agents, and slip risk on a wet floor at 3 a.m. A system built for a firehouse has to answer all five, not just look good on day one.
Apparatus Bay Flooring
This is the hardest-working zone in the building. It needs impact resistance for dropped tools and heavy equipment, a load rating that handles a fully loaded engine, a seamless surface so fluids have nowhere to pool and collect, and slip resistance when the floor is wet.
Living Quarters, Kitchens & Locker Rooms
The rest of the station has different priorities — sanitation, easy cleaning, comfort underfoot, and a finished look. We coat the whole building, not just the bay, which most firehouse flooring companies don’t offer.
Penntek Polyurea & Polyaspartic: Manufacturer-certified system, UV-stable so it won’t yellow or amber under bay lighting, cures in hours instead of days, backed by a 15-year manufacturer warranty.
Epoxy & Epoxy-Quartz Systems: A heavy-build system for maximum impact resistance, with quartz broadcast available for aggressive slip resistance and a decorative finish. Epoxy is often the right choice as a body coat under a polyaspartic topcoat — that’s exactly the system used on the Anglesea job below.
Surface Prep (Diamond Grinding & Shot Blasting): We open the concrete’s surface profile and repair cracks and joints before any coating goes don. This is where most failed apparatus bay floors went wrong the first time around.
Base Coat, Chip & Quartz Broadcast, Topcoat: The basecoat is applied, chip or quartz is broadcast for texture and durability, and a UV-stable topcoat seals the system.
Line Striping, Logos & Safety Markings: Apparatus parking stripes in safety yellow, a department seal, equipment zones, and walk lanes — all part of the same install. The crew is in and out in a day. Walk-on time is measured in hours, and apparatus is typically back in the bay the next morning.
We install throughout Blackwood, Camden, Cherry Hill, Gloucester Township, Haddonfield, Voorhees, and Washington Township, along with Central NJ shore communities and the Pennsylvania area, including Bucks County — plus our second location in Linwood, NJ.
Penntek Certified Installer, operating since 2006, NJ-licensed contractor, backed by a limited lifetime warranty, family-run and local rather than a national franchise, with 145+ customer reviews.
For most apparatus bays, our Chip Evolution (polyurea-polyaspartic) system or an epoxy-quartz system topped with polyaspartic offers the best mix of durability, chemical resistance, and fast return to service.
Most floors are walkable within hours and ready for apparatus the next morning, depending on the system and site conditions.
Yes — that’s specifically what these systems are built for. Polyurea and polyaspartic resist hot-tire pickup, and both systems resist fuel, hydraulic fluid, and common cleaning chemicals.
Yes — we coat the whole station, not just the bay. See “Living Quarters, Kitchens & Locker Rooms” above.
Yes — custom colors, department seals, and safety-yellow parking stripes and walk lanes are all part of a standard installation.
